eddy current pulsed thermography (ECPT) is a newly developed non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that provide advantages over other active thermography techniques in defect detection and analysis. Eddy current pulsed thermography is the integration of eddy current and thermography techniques. Thus, it has the advantage of high resolution, high sensitivity, standoff measurement distance and quick inspection of a large area within a short time. Corrosion in coastal regions is extremely relevant issue owing the latter's great importance to human society. About half of the world's population lives in coastal regions and the industrialization of most developing countries tends to concentrate production plants close to the sea. But corrosion due to marine atmosphere has induced fatigue and failures cause fatal disaster which has had a large economic impact for years. Thus, corrosion characterization is meaningful for safety of society and industry. many nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDTE) technologies were employed, such as ultrasonic testing (UT), eddy-current testing (ECT), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), radiographic testing (RT) and electromagnetic methods (EM methods). Hence, eddy current pulsed thermography (ECPT), a novel NDTE technique provides an opportunity for efficient nondestructive scanning and has been applied to defect detection and characterization for conductive material. In this project, the ECPT technique will be applied for acquiring IR image sequence for corroded conductive material. Principal component analysis (PCA) multivariate signal processing technique is used for signal processing. Skewness is used for data mining, and Matlab software will be applied for processing the IR image for signal processing, feature extraction and re-structure algorithms. The improvement of the technique and its limitation will be discussed.
