research purpose:for human beings, it’s impossible to live well without communication. communication plays an important role in people’s daily life. humor, as a special form of communication and a type of art, exists in our daily life therefore, modern people with great pressure are more willing to use humor to release their tension in their life. humor makes great contribution to interpersonal communication. so many scholars devote themselves to the study of humor. for another thing, both the production and comprehension of humor relies on the use of language in our social life. it also has close relation with different cultural background. people may learn the way to better appreciate british and american humor and express humorous dialogues properly. it will help the mass further understand the cultural differences between england and america and then do a little contribution to the cross-cultural communication.
